This is a special episode all about choosing the right glasses for your face and personal style. It's actually a really difficult decision and glasses often aren't cheap either so you want to get it right. Zoe has lots of tips to share and is a total expert in the eyewear sector. Whilst face shape is a consideration, personal style is more important because you've got to feel like yourself! Glasses can really make an outfit, they can be a statement, or they can drag down an outfit too if you play it too safe. The thing is, there's no need to play it safe these days as there is so much choice. Rather than go to Specsavers (no offense Specsavers) Zoe talks about all the wonderful independent brands and shops that should not be overlooked. There really is something out there for everyone. If you prefer a more classic look she has the brands for you, if you'd rather make a bold statement then there are some excellent brands out there that can really elevate your look in an instant. The Monthly Mash Up episode is when I am joined by fellow stylists to talk about what we've spotted in the shops, trends, TV, and anything that's been going on around us this month that is (mostly) style-related.
In this week's episode, I manage to offend the whole City of Portsmouth completely by accident whilst trying to make an important point! Luckily Sally of Queen Bee Styling was on hand to dig me out of a hole and eloquently explain where I was coming from! The point was, people dress down to hide, it can show a lack of confidence. There was a particular brand we were discussing when this conversation came about. It's a very well-known brand that we both find in our client's wardrobes and 9/10 end up throwing away! Accessories can really make an outfit. It's a super quick and easy way to add personality and interest and also to look like you've got dressed intentionally. Even when you are wearing a pair of jeans and a white tee, by adding jewellery you can create a great outfit. All Chambers & Beau jewellery is handmade in Amy's studio in Devon UK. She started doing personalised jewellery when no-one else really was. This week I am joined by very successful and very beautiful 52 year old silver haired curve model Rachel Peru. Rachel recently posted a reel on her Instagram (see reel here) of her wearing a tailored blazer with a bralette underneath. This post got lots and lots of positive comments but it also attracted a lot of negative comments like "tell nanna to take her medication" (from a man) and lots of "you are too old for this, put it away" (from women). The comments were worse on Facebook which is interesting...
Tune in to hear our chat about how this felt for Rachel and why we think this happens. Why don't women support women and why do the media still tell women over 40 not to wear certain things and blend into the background? 😤 Getting older can be the best time in your life in so many ways and feeling confident in your outfits is one of them. Hopefully as we get older we get more into our vibe and know ourselves a lot better, it's a shame the trolls don't feel the same.

Most of my personal styling clients tell me they want to look "pulled together but not too try-hard" - People worry about looking 'try-hard' because they don't want others to think they've spent a lot of time on how they look in case they are deemed to be vain or vacuous. People fear that paying attention to their clothes and image is frivolous and not important.
This could not be further from the truth. Investing in your mage helps you at work. It helps you to influence others, look senior or authoritative, get you more pay and get promotions. Dressing well boosts confidence and is one of the more joyful things in life. So why do people put this on the back burner and not bother looking at their wardrobe and investing in it when it can make such a difference to your life?

What do you actually need in your wardrobe and how can you look pulled together? It's better to be considered about what you buy and make sure your wardrobe contains hard working pieces that stand the test of time and help you to feel great. We all want an easy answer of what to wear in the morning and there are certain core pieces that can do that. I've come up with 5 things that will instantly elevate your outfits and make you look chic and pulled together. ✨

1. Smart boots. I got these.from Russell & Bromley, a copy of The Row boots
2. Leather skinny trousers. These are good quality.
3. A smart wool coat. I recommend many on the podcast but I've got my eye on this gingham one.
4. Cashmere jumper. John Lewis and M&S have lots at very reasonable prices.
